597 value

I am looking to sell my 597 and am wondering if anyone can help me with a fair price. It is a 2001 597HB in .22lr. I put in a Volquartsen hammer and floated the barrel (the factory job wasn't very good). It's in new condition and was always cleaned and oiled right after shooting. I was hoping to get $300 for it.

Thanks

I live in WI too! I just bought a used 597 LR in stainless at Scheel's in Appleton for $129. Then I bought a 597/17 with laminate stock at Fleet for $329. Scheel's has the 597 22 mag with HB and LS for $340. So I would think that you are a little high at $300 ???????

My Blue Book states that the retail price of the gun in 2001 was $265, but most people never pay full retail for a gun. Last year's Blue Book states 100% conditon which basically means untouched, was $225 and 98% condition would net you $180. No one ever values the care you put into a gun or any gunsmithing you have done. You really cannot ad value for any gunsmithing you or anyone else has done unles they are well known, like Jim Clark, Hamilton Bowen, Andy Horvath, jarvis, etc. and still you never get back what you paid for the work. That just does not sell, unless you are selling it to people who know you. When you want to sel a used gun, going to a site like gunsamerica.com and looking what dealer are charging for similar guns is a big help. Unfortuately no one is selling a 597 HB on ther right now. As the previous person said, you are way too high... unfortunately.

About six months ago I bought a used heavy barrel(with box in excellent condition) with a Tasco rimfire one inch 3 by 9 mounted on it for $200. This price is in Missouri.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. Would $200 be fair?

Thanks
