Inch pounds for rail screws

I just bought a used MK IV 22/45 Lite . It didn’t come with a owner’s manual.
How many inch/pounds should the picatinny rail screws be tighten to ?

You don't need no stinkin inch pounds for that!

You are not torqing a lug nut.

Use Blue Locktight and screw them snug before it dries. People who get ham fisted trying to torque scope base screws strip threads and break screws. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

It would be helpful if we new what brand of picatinny rail you have.

However in general, just snug it up unlit it stops turning, and then give it a 1/4 of a turn more.*
This applies to both dovetail and tapped hole receivers.
If you have a torque driver of good quality, we are taillking about 10 inch pounds.

* As rc. stated, I highly recommend that you use either small screw LOCTITE MS22 PURPLE, or MS242 BLUE.

With either of those you'll be fine and nothing will come loose.

All the rails I have recommend somewhere between 10-15 in lbs...with the most common being 15 lbs. I use 15 for my Ruger 22/45.

Agree with the others on the blue loctite, you should have no issues with that.

DIP Rails specific 8-10 inch pounds, and they are one of the most popular rails out there.

You can use 15 inch pounds with other brands.
None of them are going to come loose if you use LOCTITE. Most will come loose due to heating and cooling over time if you don't.

This info only applies the rails that use T-15 Torx screws.
You should follow the manufactures recommendations when using other screw/nut sizes's.

The guy I bought the gun from said the rail came with the gun . I assumed it came from Ruger .

So if it's a Ruger factory, rail then use then 10 inch pounds with a dab of LOCTITE.

The manual doesn't give you a number, but I have one on my Volquartsen/Ruger and that has worked for me.
They rail has been on for 4 years now.



Follow the advice in post #2 and #7.
And be aware that there is no force trying to loosen your rail except the expansion and contraction of heat and cold.
The lateral recoil forces against the screw is tiny.

I use 10 inch pounds on 22/45 lite aluminum receivers and a little blue lock tite , after I have cleaned the screw holes and degreased the screw threads ! Thousands of rounds later, not have come loose !

I would be very surprised if they did as blue loctite is made to be used with 1/4" and up bolts and is heavy duty overkill on tiny little screws.

If you go on Rugers website you can download the owners manual. The lite also has a aluminum upper which makes it easier to damage.
