need help , with knowing the correct tank to look to get for filling my marauder which is on the way. what to look for and what to stay away from. or any other suggestions . Thank you in advance JIM

I've never been asked for my certification when filling a tank. When you do find a place to fill them make sure they do a "cold fill". If your not getting a cold fill then your not getting the full amount that your tank can hold.

I'm still shopping for a tank myself, but here's the super-short version of what I've learned so far...

The biggest choice is between a SCUBA tank (3,000 PSI) or carbon fiber tank (4,500 PSI). Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

SCUBA: easy/cheap to buy, cheap to fill, lots of places can fill it, heavy, only holds 3,000 PSI (fewer rifle top-offs).

CF: more expensive, very few places can fill it, lighter, 15 year lifespan, many more rifle refills before needing to refill the tank.

If you plan on getting a compressor then that complicates the whole decision making criteria.

Good info so far. Ebay and watch what you purchase 4500# 15 year life is correct and with present hydo, good for 5 years then retest. I've put 3 systems together in the last year. Need a 347 valve compatible fill station for gun, under $50 with gauge and bleed valve and a male to male foster fitting for the fill shop. The ones I put together were $150-$160 and $180 3 different sizes complete with 5 years left on tanks. after this I will fill with my own compressor. For a younger tank you will pay more. Filling can be a problem 4000# iffy, 4250# around, 4500# rare. Just gotta call around, paint ball or PCP gun shop might be around.

Got any volunteer fire departments around?
They use SCBA and most of the ones around here fill their own tanks. Hint, Hint. Ought to be pressure tested ever so often, might save a bad accident.

The testing is Federally (DOT) mandated. Visual inspection once a year, hydro test every 5, plus now they want an eddy-current test (for stress cracks) as well. I have been out of diving for YEARS, and basically all my gear is worthless. The tests cost more than my aluminum 80s are worth...

Agreed, there is no need for a certification to have a bottle filled. Everything they need to know is labeled on the cylinder.

The local scuba shop gives me a”warm fill”. It drops about 200 psi by the time I get home. If the shop were more convenient I’d leave it overnight so they could give a truly full fill.

All fire depts have SCBA but some of them do not want to hook up anything g but their own tanks. My local co has all of their gear including fill station on lease from one company. So they won’t take the chance of putting anything else on it.
That said look around for shops that supply fire and rescue, many of them have fill stations and can do inspections and hydros.
