Regards,
JWA, I'm with you on this one. I can't bring myself to to call them "Winnies" either....

22AGS, I went to check the 69A's that I have and sadly neither of them have any chrome at all. They are both the "standard 69A with the peep site option". One early with the long role stamp and the straight bolt, and the other a later version with the abreviated roll stamp and the bend bolt. I did check both of them for 'born on dates' and neither have one.

Scary thing is, while checking the rifles, I came across a bolt for a 69A straight bolt that I don't seem to have a rifle for and don't recall buying..... I don't own a 72 and the bolt for my 75 is with the rifle....

Sounds like some hanky panky between the 69A and the 72A in the dark recesses of your vault.

Thanks for checking them out loner, they're still fantastic and interesting rifles. Funny how the further away from 1964 we get, the more fascinating these guns become.

Myshay, that is a gorgeous 69A! Why do you like to think it is a '58? With the chrome trigger guard I would place it closer to '60 or later.

Thanks for the pictures, you guys have some great looking chrome trimmed rifles. Sorry, I can't bring myself to say "chromie", 22AGS you are on your own with that moniker.

Regards,
Ah yes, 58 is my birth year, No problem though, I'll just change it to1960,(my birth year)

It's not written in stone Myshay, so far I haven't received a single date stamp to help us prove this, but my conviction may have come from a 58 or 59 barrel date stamp on a blued trigger guard gun, just can't remember. But '60 is a good working estimate until we find a better one.

Don't have an HMR but I did pick up a 69A today with an ungrooved receiver. 99% bluing but the stock has several dings, any idea when this was built? Also would like to know how to lighten the trigger pull as it will be shot in the sporter class.

Not without a description that goes somewhat into detail. A picture would also be great. The grooves came out in 1954. The bolt was bent somewhere around '50, which is also the year the trigger got serrations instead of being smooth. Did you look for the two digit stamp on the bottom of the barrel?
What poundage are you trying to attain? With a stock 69A adjustable screw, you can usually achieve 3 1/2 to 4 pounds without any modifications. Below that requires a knowledge of triggersmithy.

OK, the bolt is bent, smooth trigger, no date stamp. Not looking for a specific date, just a general idea. Thanks for the help.

Well, I now have a 21/2 lb pull with no creep but plenty of overtravel. Little stoning and a spring change!

Make sure you test it a LOT to make sure it will hold, if so that's about as light as I have ever achieved myself. But make sure it's safe and reliable! The smooth trigger puts it around the late '40s. I put a trigger stop, in the form of a machine screw, in mine, but you have to make sure that there is still room to pull the trigger back far enough to remove the bolt.

Flysberger, are any of those a carbine?
