The Izhmash Ural is there top dog target rifle.
I would love to have one some day.

The Vostok ammo is not target ammo but it shoots
pretty good in my 2 Russian rifles. I bough 5 bricks
last feb. I think it is worth the $17.00 per brick.

Vostok CM-2, NOT ural

Far be it from me to disagree with Century, but that's an older Vostok CM-2, it is not a Ural, which is an entirely different product. You can see an older Ihzmash Ural in my Classified ad selling mine. I also own Vostok CM-2's and just sold one here. These are usually good rifles if they've been maintained, but no parts are available for them.

Here is what the new Urals look like.
http://www.izhmash.ru/eng/product/ural-5-1.shtml
There was a guy selling them in MN. last year.
I was sure tempted to go & check it out but I did
want to tease my self with not having no $$ at the time.
He was asking about $600 for the plain jane one new in
the box.
I have to play with what I got.

chico two: There's no way to make a general statement about the accuracy, except to say that, buying it sight unseen from a surplus distributor, a new one would likely either be more accurate or be returnable if there was a problem. With the older ones, I would only buy one if it came from a reputable shooter/poster (which I hope I am), or if I could actually go there and cherry pick one (which I did with the two that I had, picking them out of over 20 available at the time). If you find the right older one, it could well be more accurate than a new one, just because it's broken in and the barrel already seasoned.

midwest swiss: Yeah, the new ones are nice, I owned and shot one a few years ago (used to be Jim Carmichael's BR rifle), but they don't have the DST and the bedding block that the older Urals had. Since the older Vostok's and the Ural's were rolled into Izhmash, the new ones are more like an upgraded CM-2. They do have a very nice adjustable trigger (better than the CM-2's) and a hammer-forged barrel, but they are hard to actually get ahold of and I'm not sure they are any better than an older, original Ural if it's been cared for.
