Just joined the forum so I can post my results.
My friend and I each bought 9422m's after coming across them at local shops.
I just called Winchester and got the ages of our rifles.

His has no checkering and serial is F1252** and D.O.M. is 1974

Mine has checkering and serial is F6376** and D.O.M. is 1992

At the same time as we found these 9422m's I came across several old Marlin 39a's and I had to bring them home with my Winchester. One has a serial starting with a D= 1947 the other starts with an N= 1956.

Sounds like some pretty nice finds. Welcome aboard.

Just pulled my 9422 in .22lr caliber from the safe to look it over again and you always find something new about it. I have a couple of questions for one of the 9422 guru's. I have the original carton and paperwork, but not the original receipt. Serial # is F6525xx.

I always thought it was made in 1992, but after looking at the date of manufacture on this site, I'm wondering if it was actually made in 1993?

Also, the second thing, I thought all 9422 rifles made after around 1979 or so were 9422XTR, but mine is just stamped 9422 on the rifle and the shipping carton. Did they go back to just 9422 at some point?

Just thought maybe someone with a lot of 9422 knowledge could answer these questions right off the cuff. Any info would be most appreciated. Thanks

Picked up a beautiful 9422 XTR at the gun show yesterday, $519 out the door. Looks like a safe queen, internals spotless, bluing near perfect, wood has a few small dings(going to refinish it with tung oil, anyway). Serial #F2927XX for The List.

Winchester 9422 find

I’m in Ontario, Canada, and I just found an excellent condition 9422 in 22LR at my local hunting store. The serial number is F255xxx. I phoned Winchester and they told me it’s from 1976. (Just to help add to the database!)

Angry Final Tribute Series high s/n

I once owned (idiot, idiot, idiot) a Final Tribute Series Legacy in 22LR, s/n FTS92**, so it appears that Winchester came very close to meeting the target of 9,422 guns in the Final Tribute Series. The box end label read "9422 TRIBUTE SPCL, LEGACY,S, 22" BBL 22 L, LR". Unlike the other 9422's I've seen, the s/n was only stamped once on the bottom of the receiver, and not at all on the lever / trigger group piece. This may support rumors that these guns were put together is a hurry, although little else seemed amiss.

Interesting story. How was the assembly quality?

This was the first 9422 I ever handled, so I didn't have any 9422 experience to compare it to. I never fired it or took it apart, but nothing on the outside stood out as poorly finished or assembled. The wood was plain with an ugly dark knot, but nicely finished. The receiver polishing was better than the Marlin 39's I was familiar with.

I picked it up at a local gun shop shortly after the plant's closing was announced, figuring it was a now or never opportunity. After a while I realized it would likely stay a NIB safe queen. I try to avoid getting guns I don't plan on shooting, so when something else shiny and shootable caught my eye, I traded it in.
