Garrow 17HMR Upper in the house...

I received my Garrow 17HMR upper today and it popped onto my Rock River X-1 AR lower without a hitch. I will say that the engineering on this unit is outstanding.

We had a cold front heading our way, so I ran down to the range and did a function test before it got too cold and windy. (Winds ended up being around 40 mph gusts.)

Ran 50 rounds of A17 without a hitch. I did slightly lube the each case with a very slight wipe of Militec before loading into the mag. (I always do the same when shooting my Savage A17). Only shot it off hand and groupings at 25 yards were terrific. I have a high end 2-stage trigger in my RRA lower, and have shot standing matches for 40 years, so I think I'm a decent offhand shot.

There was a slight "catch" when pulling the charging handle back to load a cartridge from a fresh mag. I had to wiggle it a few times to free it up to unlock and pull rearward.

So... I disassembled the bolt when I returned to the shop and had a look. There was a slight burr on the gas mechanism. It took about 30 seconds to stone it smooth, then rolled some P2000 sandpaper and polished both sides of the dovetail. (See picts below. Polished areas in red.)

While I had it apart, I also spun the firing pin in the lathe and gave it a slight polish to free it up a bit in the carrier.

It also appeared that the return spring is in a bit of coilbind when the bolt mechanism in it's fully opened position. I might revisit that at a later time.

Reassembled it and lubed it with a wipe of Militec ... and now smooth as silk when operating the charging handle.

We're into a cold spell for a while. I'll get down to the range again this weekend and wring it out at 100 and 200 yards.

Very, very happy with the quality and engineering of the Garrow 17HMR.

PS... I might also take one of the mags apart and see about increasing the round capacity before i go to back to my range.
