NAME Rocinante, AGE 75.

LOCATION: Tropical Southern MN

GUN: Ruger 10-22T

GUN SETUP: Scope Vortex Crossfire 4X12X40

AMMO: RWS Rifle Match

INDIV TGTS SCORES: 88, 87, 89, 87, 85, 1X

NOTES, WEATHER, Beautiful bright sunny day.

Pretty puny score. Fifty shots offhand tires me out, but I hope I'm doing fairly well in the "Over 75" Division.

Yes it is physically and mentally demanding, and that is why any entry at any age is a great thing. Yours is a fine score, thank you for contributing to this great online match.

Thanks.

Looks like you quoted my post before I fixed that crazy rifle pic.

You may want to edit and just remove the rifle picture to get this fixed.

I do intend to keep trying at offhand despite my dismal score......it's a far, far greater challenge than shooting with a rest........and it's more practical.

The picture is fixed.

I'll put a new pic on soon.

I have a sling on the rifle now.

I didn't have a proper shooting sling, but I put a carry sling on it so I could use a hasty sling to give me a little more stability.

I'm going to do the same thing with the Marlin 925.

I figure it can't hurt.

I've decided to focus on offhand for the brief time we have before winter here.

I know I can shoot well from a rest.......it doesn't prove much. If I ever have to use a rifle for self defense.......I may not have time to find a rest.

Offhand is the real challenge.

Scores from 2 years ago ...

I started shooting these matches in 2012. In going through my posts I find I shot 74 matches at 25 yards and 19 at 50 yards. These were shot with a great variety of rifles. Every type of action with every type of sight. For the most part, whether I had a scope or not did not seem to matter much. That has also been my experience posting scores on the offhand airgun matches which I moderate on RFC.

My average score at 25 yards is 416/500 = 83%
My average score at 50 yards is 190/250 = 76%

I am aware that I can't seem to have the rifle "hang" on the target and the barrel is always in motion.

==========

Comments: That was two years ago. I have only got worse with time. I turn 80 soon and probably best stick to a shotgun if I want to hit something.

I salute you!

I hope I can live to be 80 no matter what my shooting abilities.

Temps in the low 70's are way too warm for mid October around here. I'm not complaining, it made for a nice day at the range. Wind was non existent.

Notes: Had a hard time today several zeros in the set before this one. This one was going well until I shot a zero on the first shot of the last bull.Make a grown man cry. Zuk, if you hadn't posted the 209, I probably would have left my 208 ride.

My wounds can only take so much salt!

My 209 had all 50 in scoring rings, so you beat me with one round tied behind your back.

No salt, all in good fun,I really had a struggle today with a few shots, tomorrow we get to fire lever action silhouette matches in rifle cartridge and pistol cartridge so I look forward to that. Have a great day and thank you for helping make this match great.

Sure would like to have you back here David ! Us old timers, especially the match veterans like you who have earned your stripes with thousands of shots downrange... we need to keep the sport going no matter our scores. Folks who have been at this for going on ten years have a unique understanding of the word "offhand" that is not found in any other shooting discipline. Part of that is knowing it is not about comparing scores, rather it's the little personal triumphs that await us each time we raise the rifle...

On that note, welcome back Mike & Rich.
And a huge welcome-aboard to Don & Rocinante !

All the best,
Bob4BVM

This is my first attempt since my eye surgery earlier this month
I can say that it is great have binocular vision again, and especially good to have my shooting eye back in some kind of useable condition. Amazing work by my eye Dr, i have no doubt with some Guidance from above

Nice morning to shoot here, just so good to be out there. It's been long enough that i had to think about all the steps . Did not manage that every shot, but the 8's are always a good reminder for me !

Hope to try an irons set later today when the sun is at my back
