Here's a recap on data I posted elsewhere in this forum last week.
I took the new Ruger Mk2 (SS 5.5" bull bbl) and the Single Six (SS, 6.5" bbl) to the range; both weapons are stock, no modifications. I bought a mongrel's lot of ammo at the local gun shops and discount stores; no bulk packs and all ammo purchased with the goal of a brick at <~$25. All group sizes center to center in inches, distance 25 yds, all shooting with the muzzle off the front and the butt on the arm of the front half of an Outers varmint rifle rest (to hold the weapon as stable as possible given my 50 year old eyes). 5/5 means the group size is based on all 5 shots in the 5-shot group; 4/5 means best 4 shots in the 5-shot group. I shot four groups each, and probably ought to do this exact same test a few times to see if the results are consistent. Data are the mean of all four groups. Shooting in moderate (50 degree) temperatures, slight wind. Ammo chosen at random, then weapon chosen at random, four groups shot consecutively in each weapon. The results (comma delimited, not sure how this'll look when sent) FYI:
25-yard test, Mk2, Mk2, Single6, Single 6
Ammo, 5/5, best 4/5, 5/5, best 4/5
Aguila Match Pistol, 1.50, 1.18, 1.80, 1.25
Aguila SE Std Vel, 1.85, 1.20, 1.95, 1.30
CCI Mini-Mag, 1.70, 1.08, 2.13, 1.70
Fed GoldMedTgt, 1.21, 0.96, 3.05, 1.93
Fed Lightning, 1.79, 1.28, 2.68, 1.55
PMC Scoremstr1, 2.33, 1.56, 2.04, 1.41
PMC Scoremstr2, 1.55, 1.28, 1.98, 1.35
Rem 22HV, 1.65, 1.28, 2.08, 1.35
Rem T22 Tgt, 2.55, 1.55, 2.45, 1.83
Win Super X HV, 1.75, 1.10, 3.75, 2.50
I shot the PMC Scoremaster twice to verify its accuracy against the Mark II, which in all other loads and in the repeated test was more accurate than the Single6.
So, based on the first analysis of these data, I plan to keep on hand: 1) Rem HV ('Golden Bullet', ~$10/brick) or Aguila SE (~$12/brick) for the Single Six, 2) Federal Gold Medal Target (~$25/brick) for the Mark II, and could use the Aguila SE or Remington HV in the Mark II when the boy and I go plinking.
I wonder why the match pistol ammo was so variable in the revolver??
