It's pretty hard to diagnose something like this without actually seeing the pistol.

A field strip and cleaning/inspection is probably in order. In case you don't have it, I believe

I have a '53 vintage Sport King as well and above link is similar to the manual that was in my box - skimming through them both, the only difference I can tell is that mine is dated 4-53.
