CAn you compare the older Leupold EFR scopes to the ones today? I was wondering of those of you who have both, is the quality getting better or slightly going down hill? My EFR 3-9x33 and 6.5-20x40 are made within the past 5 years. Were the older ones of better quality as they were stamped "made in the USA"?

I like the exterior finish on the older ones and the low profile turret caps over the newer Freedom line. But the optics are equal at least in my eyes.

I have 2 of each of those.

One is a VX II 3-9x 33mm Rimfire E.F.R., and that one says nothing about where it was made. Maybe it said something on the box.
My VX-2 3-9x 33mm EFR says, USA*DESIGNED*MACHINED*ASSEMBLED.

One of my VX-3 6.5-20x40mm E.F.R. RIMFIRE AIR RIFLE scopes says, USA*DESIGNED*MACHINED*ASSEMBLED.
The other one says nothing about where it was made. Again there may be something on the box.

Bottom line is all for them have offshore glass, everything else is Made and Assembled in the USA.
They must have been called out on the glass at some point in the last 5 or so years.
If I remember correctly, the rules on what percentage of the product was actual made in the USA based on cost came into effect, and that change the Made In USA rules.

They also apply their own in house Coatings. That's a really big deal.

I have three VX-2 EFRs and two VX-Freedom EFRs. The VX-2 (or VX-II for that matter) has a nicer shape and finish (to my eye) than the blockier Freedom version. I find the optics of both to be excellent -- bright, sharp, and clear. The adjustment knobs for elevation and windage are different but seem equally functional. The Freedom version, of course, CANNOT be had with a Gloss finish though.

IMA even when Leupold was more accommodating they refused to gloss a matt scope pleading sub adhesion, I asked.
