I hope you all can help me figure out what rifle this stock might be inletted for. I picked it up at an estate sale along with a very nice Springfield Armory M2 stock.

As you can see, the exterior appears to be copied largely from the Remington 37. The bolt handle cutout and the rear aperture sight notch differentiate it from a genuine 37 stock, as well as the inletting. As you can see in the pictures, it has never had a screw in the drilled holes, at least in the area around the trigger opening. Weirdly, it has a serial number stamped where the buttplate would go. Also, note the escutcheon for an action screw.

Anyway, take a peek at the pics and see what you think. It is nicely finished, not just roughed out.
