I went to a gun shop yesterday. He just got this '69 golden in. I payed $450 which I feel is enough if not slightly high for it's condition. The honesty of the rifle and its wear spoke to me. The white line spacer was missing from the but stock.... which I don't care. i don't like the white anyway really. It shoots fantastic. I am in love.
Well, I have been mainly into Husqvarna high powered rifles, safari rifles, AK47, FAL, and AR15s a little bit, as well as wartime bolt action rifles and garands. So rimfires haven't been on my radar.
But I owned a gun shop and needed research for other people... so i joined.
It is only recently that my interest in rimfires have peaked. I have a old standard ruger pistol, a smith k22 from the 50s, a german made by erma ithicagun lever action that I shot as a child and put thousands of rounds through it. (nearly identical to the henry 22 rifle. I think the parts will interchange.) I have shot the pistols a few times every year. That was about it.
I have 5 acres on the edge of town. I was going to buy a pellet gun to shoot legally in city limits. But I ran across a 39A and it just spoke to me so I came home wiht it. .
with cb shorts it is quiet as a pellet gun and so far I am not in trouble with the noise. Neighbors are 75 yards away. I know when they aint home.
Future rimfires will be a husqvarna single shot, a husqvarna repeater bolt gun and maybe one of the military training rifles from a former communist nation. I forgot I have a savage 22 mag with a bull barrel I haven't shot much yet either.
I like guns like that I can carry in the woods without worry. I made a spacer out of a couple layers of white birch bark. It's more tan than white and I think looks good. Easy to cut, shape and sand down. I did it because the replacement buttplate was just a little off of the stock shape so the spacer matched up the edges.
Years ago I made a white spacer out of a 5gal white plastic bucket, don't remember if I used the bottom or the lid. Turned out real nice and was the same thickness of the original spacer.
