UrbanCowboy - I originally wanted to build a rimfire dissipator, but changed course to build a rimfire Service Rifle.. and they're fullsize 20's, so to answer your question, yeah that's basically what I was modeling the build after.
Here's an image of Fulton Armory's service rifle offering:

Also, my primary is a BCM that's 20", so it makes a decent trainer as well. And I shot an M16A4 in the Marines so the feel of a 20" AR is kinda second nature.
Here is a picture of my main squeeze BCM with the new CMMG rimfire. They're the same size and roughly the same weight, so I'm fine with it.

As for the barrel length....... I'm aware that 16" seems to be generally recognized on the interwebz (for whatever that's worth) as the optimal barrel length, but in my experience, a longer barrel might shoot a lower MV but it'll generally shoot more accurately.

Why don't the Biathlon rifles all have 16in barrels...?

What's the detriment?

16 inches may be optimal amongst non-NFA barrel lengths if the highest muzzle velocity is the goal, but if high muzzle velocity were the goal, then 22lr would be a poor choice.

A longer barrel may reduce extreme spreads in MV, and certainly adds mass out where it can do the greatest good for stability.
