Mark III grips in a Mark II?

I know the magazines will work, but not sure how close the grips are, because of the mag release on the heel of the grip on the Mark II.

The short answer is Yes, they will fit. I have several grips from CDNN which are made to fit either the Mark ll or lll or lV. The difference is a small notch near the top front of the grip for the Mark lll mag release. The Mark ll mag release isn't interfered with by the grips, so that isn't an issue. https://www.cdnnsports.com/rugerr-mk...l#.XTWthZOpG70

Only Issue I Can See Is:

There may be a slight relief cut on the left grip for the Mark III magazine catch - but that won't be much.

thanks. I was reasonably sure, but not 100%. I'm getting a Mark II lower, and have some Mark III Altamont target grips I might use.

Some people are picky about having the proper period grip on their MKII. As in not having the MKIII mag release notch on the left grip panel. Otherwise its not a big deal and you'll have a much wider selection if choosing from MKIII grips, which of course fit a MKII. And are advertised as such on many eBay sale listings.

Just another thought, you might be mistaken about the mark lll magazines working. I don't have any mark lll/lV mags to check, but, I believe the release notch on them will bind up in the well on a mark l or ll which could prevent it from seating and make it difficult to remove.

originality won't matter. This will be a Mark II FrankenRuger that will be my loaner and back-up to my pimped out Mark III that I use for bullseye competitions.

6 7/8 comp slabside stainless upper, blued lower with mark III magazines and grips. I will buy Mark II mags if I need to. I think the mag opening on the Mark III and IVs are more generous, so that notch doesn't hang up. I can relieve the opening before I build the frame up, and cold blue the bare metal.

My partner is a lefty, and my Mark III has the VQ laminated righty target grips, so this will be for her to use, as a loaner, and my back-up.

I have an original 22/45 but the grip is so-so for me. Besides, I had the spare slabside upper. But acquiring the lower netted me a spare bolt, and I still have a 4" blued bull upper floating around, so this might not ever end.

I also have more 10/22 barrels and stocks than receivers too.
