For the last few weeks ....
Some of you may have noticed I've been, sporadically, absent from the the forum.

It is not that I've lost interest or that my commitment as a moderator is waining.
Rather, I've been working over-time
at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Transfer Facility in Fort Stockton, Texas.

As such, my participation at our forum will be proportionately limited.

For how long? I don't know.
The staffing shortage for TDCJ is system wide and persistent.

By the way, if anyone is looking for a job .... TDCJ has a spot for you.
Qualify for retirement with only ten years of service
(Annunity and Medical Plan for Life)

No Physical is required

No Age Limit

If you already live in Texas, relocation may not be necessary.
There maybe be a unit near you.
Or, if you wish to move,
there could be a TDCJ unit in the region you're moving to.
If you don't have a retirement annuity
or are looking for a second retirement
and a medical plan for life -
TDCJ might be worth looking into.

Incidently,
Just got off the phone with Marc Sheppard at Altius.
We were discussing a Larsen Recruit Rifle.
He should have some in-stock in March.
Hopefully, I will have one - soon.

We didn't talk for long .... I had just woken-up and my mind wasn't clear.
As such, I only had a few questions.
Was a rifle in-stock? No.
But, new inventory should arrive sometime in March.
New inventory, new price.
When his order arrives, I will know the price.

Man, I was on vacation at El Paso this past Christmas holiday and drove through Fort Stockton -- nice country out there. Saw a lot of dead deer on roadside - man, all that wasted meat.

Biathlon 7-2 KO Version 05 (Model not being imported)

Sent this email to Altius on 22 February 2008.
I haven't received a response - yet.

So, I just finished calling Mr. Sheppard.
His answering machine took my message.
I hate speaking to answering machines - but, what are you going to do.

Mr. Sheppard was not in his workplace.
His answering machine announced that he will be returning
after 05 March 2008.

Mr. Sheppard,
Would it be possible for you to import this rifle via Mr. Larsen.

Биатлон-7-2-КО исп. 05
"Biathlon-7-2-KO" ep. 05 "05"
Biathlon 7-2 KO Version 05 - (Биатлон-7-2-КО исп. 05)

I believe there is a market for this model that Russian American Armory is not serving.

And, to a lesser extent, the following models should spark some buyer interest.

Биатлон 7-2-КО
Biathlon 7-2 - KO
BIATHLON MODEL 7-2KO Hunting Rifle (BI-7-2KO)

Biathlon Basic 7-2 KO w/Dioptrical Sighting Device
IZHMASH Biathlon Basic

Биатлон 7-3 "Кадет"
"Biathlon 7-3" Cadet "
Biathlon 7-3 Kadet (Биатлон 7-3 "Кадет")

I think that these models that are not being currently imported do have a market niche
that is being overlooked or ignored by other Russian firearms importers/distributors.

Not for sale in the USA: Importable: but, EXCLUDED Russian Models & Varients

Incidental,
Just got off the phone with Marc Sheppard at Altius.
We were discussing a Larsen Recruit Rifle.
He should have some in-stock in March.
Hopefully, I will have one - soon.

Once again, Just got off the phone to Altuis ...
NO, the Larsen Recruit Rifles are not in - yet.

However, Marc said, that he would be in-contact
with Larsen in the next day or so.

As such, I asked if he would speak with Larsen about obtaining
other Izhmash rifles that are not being imported by RAA.

He agreed to do so.

This is the email I sent to Altuis shortly afterward.

Marc,

If you can obtain this rifle from Larsen .
I want one. And, perhaps, others would be interested as well.

This is the rifle I'm most interested in buying:
Biathlon 7-2 KO Version 05 - (Биатлон-7-2-КО исп. 05)

This is another rifle would like to obtain:
BI-7-2KO Hunting Rifle
It is currently listed at the Izhmash website.

Return Call from Altuis

Marc Sheppard, earlier, tried to return my call.
I wasn't available to take his call
- outside with my precious Pekingese.

So, I called Altius ... again.
Marc told me Larson will be shipping the Recruit Rifles
with-in the next two weeks - maybe.
The wait continues.

However, Marc indicated he had conferred with Larson
about the other rifles I was interested in.

Mr. Larson said, he would look into it.
When? After he is finished with the biathlon competition
he is currently involved with.

Progress ... I'd like to think so.
At the very least, a European exporter and an American importer
are concurrently looking into the possibility of handling
an Izhmash model that RAA is not importing.

TDCJ: Overtime

For the last 10 days, I've been working overtime.
At least 14 to 15 hours daily.

As such, I've had to curtail my forum activity.

Today has been my first, full day, off.
And, no, I wasn't really off.
My wife had a prioritized list of "honey dos" that
I couldn't' put-off any longer.

It is late in the afternoon and most of my mandatory tasks are completed.
This is the first time I've been able to get-on the computer.

Tomorrow, I will begin another 10-day cycle of 14 to 15 hour days at the prison.

Fortunately, relief maybe insight.
Some temporary housing is slated to be transferred to
Fort Stockton for the exclusive use of transient TDCJ officers.

Hopefully, the availability of free housing for correctional officers will attract potential recruits.

Sometime tomorrow, I'll try to call Altuis - again.
Maybe the Larsen Recruit Rifle will have arrived.

Not to hijack the thread so delete if you will, but I've got a few clients that work for the TDCJ down here in Sugar Land and in the gazillion units in Rosharon and agree with you that y'all have some awesome benefits. And the pay was better than I ever expected. Plus if there were a growth industry in Texas, corrections is it.
I can't imagine being a police officer but you guards (both the men and women I've met) are cut from a special kind of stone. Still, the only way I could imagine being there would be as a visitor.
Thanks for doing an awesome job keeping the guys with the ugly jumpsuits behind the fence.

Altius Shop Hours

Having been to Marc Sheppard's Altius shop in the summertime his hours typically are Wednesday through Saturday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm if I remember correctly. He is involved Biathlon competitions both locally and nationally and may be travelling at any time.
If you happen to get to West Yellowstone, MT (the west entrance to Yellowstone Park), you have to stop in and see the coolest little gun shop in the nation. In fact Marc is the only Biathlon shop in the nation.
Boy Howdy, he's got some cool guns.

The next time you're in Marcs shop, how about taking some pictures?
And, post them at our forum.
I'd love to see his shop
