Adjusting sights on a mkXXII auto

Hey guys,

My italian mkxxii developed a crack at the wrist of the stock and I finally had it repaired. I couldn't be happier with the quality of the repair, but for one thing... the rifle now shoots about 1.5" left of the POA. I tried lightly tapping the front sight and it didn't move at all, it almost looks staked at the dovetail in front of the bead.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Greg

Try tapping the rear sight? Mine has an index mark on the barrel behind the rear sight, but it doesn't look like it would impede drifting the rear sight in the dovetail. If you do that, be careful where you hit it so you don't smack the pivot pin for the rear sight flip-up blades.

Or, put a scope on it.

Mine is indexed like you described. I tried drifting it over a bit but that thing wasn't moving, I don't think it has moved since 1965. I'm going to cool it down with some dry ice and try again, and if that doesn't work, I'm going with the scope. I've got a japanese mkXXII that is scoped so I'll just swap it out. I prefer the flip up italian iron sights over the later NK version, but they're not bad.

Have you tried clamping the barrel in a non marring vice! Works for me when dovetail sights don't want to move. Scares me when I see guys pounding on the sights while still mounted in stock. Also try tapping left to right to break it loose. Then adjust as needed.
