Loss of value for non factory sight Diamondback?

Log in to see fewer ads
I have a question about what effect a non factory red front sight insert might have on value on my 4" blued Diamondback .22. I'm not planning on selling--just curious. Serial number R222xx which I think places date of manufacture in late 1970s. Except for what I assume is a non factory sight insert, condition is near mint with only a turn ring. I bought it years ago, no box or papers. If the sight insert was a factory option I am not aware of it.

Anyone care to throw in their opinion of how much, if any, this reduces value?

Back in the 70's I put a white outline rear sight on my Diamondback. I still have the original. If it bothers someone they can change it out, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

If the gun would have been a NIB collector item... It would certainly have affected the value.

But for a shooter, the overall condition of the pistol is more important. If someone wanted to return it to original status, I believe standard black blades are still readily available.

My question was about the FRONT sight. On my Diamondback the front sight appears to be integral with the barrel and cannot be changed out unless the whole barrel is replaced.

Thanks for the replies.

Your front sight is not held in place by a pin?

Cant speak for mxl but my four inch 22 front sight is integral. Mines a shooter and not a collection piece, if it had a front sight insert I don't believe it's value would be hurt much if at all.

I have one that is in NIB condition with a red insert in the front sight. I donít know if Colt ever did that from the factory but it sure looks good.
I doubt it will hurt the value because Colt was known for doing unusual things every now and then. I really canít tell if mine is original or not.

What you have is a shooter in very good shape. The front sight really shouldn't affect the value. There are plenty of 4" .22 Diamondbacks around to where the "collectors" are going to go for the high condition unmolested guns with box and docs. The fact you don't have the box/docs decreases the value more than the front sight.
