Yeah, pretty much. Sometimes 20 shots if I'm unsure my POI is off my POA. As long as I'm feeling good I try to get right to it.

It used to take longer to get warmed up, maybe 30-40 shots to get into the groove, but as I've progressed that time seems to have shortened a bit.

For a Silhouette match I'll shoot about 50 shots, but that's split between about 30 shots when the line goes hot for practice (~8:30am) and another 20 shots just before we start (~9:45am). (Edited for clarity.)

***50 yard scoped entry***
12/23/19
215 - 2x
MManning, 53
Northwest Arkansas
CZ 452 murican
Athlon Talos @ 18x
Wolf MT/ SK
42, 45, 44-1x, 45-1x, 39

Also had a 212 -4x, and a 200

And just for grins and inspired by acorneau's airgun scores, I got out the Marauder and did a 217-4x. One point better (but one x less) than my PB with the 452. Was getting fatigued at this time. The marauder is so much easier to shoot than the 452.

60ish, mostly sunny, south wind. Didn't use the offhand stand. Was hoping to break 220.

Yeah, my HFT-500 is almost a pound heavier, with a lighter trigger, and absolutely no recoil.

You still have a week to go before the month/year is out. Keep at it!

It is amazing how much a forward weight bias helps (me anyway). The Marauder is ~2 lbs heavier than the 452 (with a cheap bipod), and a bunch of that weight is out front.

I'm on vacation until Jan 2, so there will be more trips to the range! Hopefully that 220 will happen......

December 25 yard scope Entry
Score: 469-8X
Name: 72coupe/Roy Woodman/72
Location: Wichita Falls, Tx
Gun: Ruger 50th anniversary carbine
Set up: Cheap 4.5 power gun show scope.
Ammo: Federal Automatch
Individual Target Scores: 92, 96-2X, 95-4X, 97-1X, 89-1X
Notes: RichJ's score with a 10-22 encouraged me to see what I could do with mine. I think if I shot more than once every 3 months I could do pretty well with it. Not what most of you guys ae shooting but pretty good.

Beautiful day here in Houston and luckily the range was open! Ran two sets of 50-yard targets for smallbore and a set for a couple of the air rifles (not-official scores, just for my own practice).

**** 50-YARD SCOPE Practice #1 **** 12-25-19

SCORE: 228-4X
NAME: acorneau (Allen Corneau)
LOCATION: Bayou Rifles, Houston
GUN: Anschutz 1710
SCOPE: Leupold/Premier at ~30X
AMMO: SK Rifle Match
INDIV TGTS SCORES: 44, 44-1X, 44-1X, 47, 49-2X

Threw one into the 6-ring on the third bull, otherwise kept them all in the black.

**** 50-YARD SCOPE ENTRY **** 12-25-19

SCORE: 232-4X
NAME: acorneau (Allen Corneau)
LOCATION: Bayou Rifles, Houston
GUN: Anschutz 1710
SCOPE: Leupold/Premier at ~30X
AMMO: SK Rifle Match
INDIV TGTS SCORES: 46-2X, 45-1X, 47, 47, 47-1X

Four 8's, the rest 9's and 10's. This one will probably end up as my official score for the month. Just two points behind my PR of 234-3X from last December.

And just for practice...

TX200: 215-1X
HFT-500: 221-2X

I only had one full-size A-23 target left so I had to economize with 10 shots on one bull and 15 on the other (plus one as a sighter) for each rifle. Still good practice to stretch it out a little further than I have to shoot during a Silhouette match.

Well i seem to be locked in to these score levels. need better focus on each step of the shot to break out of my doldrums...
Here are my best tries for December-

*** 25 Yd SCOPED **** 12/15/19
SCORE: 472-10X
NAME: Bob4BVM, 70
LOCATION: Oregon
GUN: Kimber 82G #2
SIGHTS: Scope @ 32x
AMMO: Agu.SESV
INDIV TGTS SCORES: 94-2X, 97-4X, 96-1X, 94-0X, 91-3X

**** 25 Yd IRONS **** 12/31/19
SCORE: 460-13X
NAME: Bob4BVM, 70
LOCATION: Oregon
GUN: Kimber 82G#1
SIGHTS: Peeps. w/6 bloop & 5.0mm front ring, adj'ble iris rear
AMMO: Agu.SESV
INDIV. TGTS SCORES: 93-3X, 88-4X, 92-2X, 93-2X, 94-2X
50*, wind & rain, typical W Oregon winter day
For this my last set of the year, I tried to focus on each step of each shot. Blew my F/T's on the second & third bulls, got refocused and ended up OK i guess. I was satisfied that i at least landed five10's on all 5 bulls and a decent x-count (for me) showed when i was paying attention to Follow-Thru.

Happy New Year to each of you stand-up riflemen !

For me, I start with 3 sight check shots off bench to confirm sights are on. Then i'll shoot just one or two offhand into the sighter bull & if it looks good & I feel confident in my hold, I proceed right away to begin a set of bulls for score.

My eyes start getting tired around 35-40 shots, so if I shoot too many warmup shots I'd be screwed toward the end of my set.
Eye fatigue is something I am fighting more as I get older. To that end I find that not messing around with sight picture to much on each shot is really helping me .

In other words, I try to focus on a rapid acquisition of a good sight picture, and then once I get it , to proceed to the trigger part of the shot immediately.
This also avoids my old nemesis of over-holding and having to start the shot over which just adds to the fatigue factor as the set progresses.

Get it up, grab a good sight picture, and as Charlie Opalewski says, "take the first Ten".

Cheers,
Bob

Seems like my 215 50 yard score above will be the entry for this month. Had a bunch of 205 to 212 scores since then. I'll have 5 or so good shots in a row, then pull one out of the black and out in the 5 and 6 rings. Argh. I did recently get my NPA fine tuned, and figured out that putting my finger further (closer to the knuckle) on the trigger helps to prevent pulling shots left. Very different from my airguns.

Keep up the great shooting guys! Happy new year!

my first set of the new decade

**** 25 Yd IRONS **** 1/1/2020
SCORE: 469-10X
NAME: Bob4BVM, 70
LOCATION: Oregon
GUN: Kimber 82G#1
SIGHTS: Peeps. w/6 bloop & 5.0mm front ring, adj'ble iris rear
AMMO: Agu.SESV
INDIV. TGTS SCORES: 94-2X, 96-4X, 92-3X, 93-0X, 94-1X
53*F, shot between the wind & rain, does anyone know if bullets are deflected by raindrops ?
Regardless i was not going to let New Years Day pass without getting out to shoot my first set of the new decade !

Still working hard on my shot selection, F/T, and 'taking the first 10' to avoid overholding. Some days it feels like that is working, this is my best irons set in a while...

Again, Happy New Year to all of my fellow Offhanders !
