What are people smoking? Is a Izhmash Biathlon-7-2-KO really worth an opening bid of $899.00 with a "Buy It Now" of $1199.00? I think I paid $250.00 or so about 5-6 years ago.

.

With all due respect, that was then, this is now...……….

If it sells, you'll find the seller's smoking a Cuban cigar...

There's an old axiom amongst sellers: "How can you get a good price if you don't ask for it ? "

Just trying to figure out if the value is because they are not imported anymore or if I was missing something in the accuracy department.

IDK that, but do know the a fair price for something no longer available is what someone is willing to spend.

usmc69--- I don't think you missed anything, its just that certain folks, if they WANT one bad enough, are going to pay whatever it takes to obtain one of these as they are no longer available. While I personally would NOT pay that amount for one of these, I certainly AM glad I picked up a couple while they were $399 (from CDNN?, I think) a few years back. I think that was the LAST batch of these rifles imported into the USA. I have to say that the accuracy of these rifles is amazing (at least the two that I have) and the 2-stage triggers can be adjusted to a very nice break. The rest of it, however, is very "utilitarian" and the stocks (Russian fence posts?) are not much to look at. Is one of these rifles, even if NIB worth $899?? I think not, but that's just me. The thing is, though, I like the 7-2's so much I doubt if I would sell mine, even FOR $899. Talk about being conflicted...

There is a small but growing group of biathletes in the U.S. and these 7-2 actions are a way to build a competitive rifle for a lot less $ than the German alternative. An Annie all set up to race is about $4,000 while thanks to folks like Lost-Nation R&D and Eastern Sierra Armory, someone with a little work can get a functional race-ready rifle for around $2,200 all in, that includes an 7-2 for $800, which is my ceiling for one of these just now. Lol, if anyone wants a "stock" stock, I have a few sitting around, these are useful to hold the action during shipping .

Different time, different individuals.

I have the same reaction as you when I see people spending over $1,000 on a Garand or Enfield...
- I remember them being $200 or less rifles

Wish I could go back in time and buy a few mores.

Mine shoots right up there with my high end longrange rimfire guns but is the perfect gun for PRS type matches.

When you can't get something any more and missed out on the good old days when they were cheap you have to pay to play.

Same thing with the old muscle cars when they were a dime a dozen.

Here's one of mine in it's new PRS action running thru a 10 round magazine. Waiting on the second ARS chassis to be finished hopefully before Christmas.

The shop owner must have seen the Gunbroker ad that the OP (usmc69) mentioned, and smoking the same substance as well. Methinks that will be on his display rack for quite some time. Now, if that rifle was a 7-4 model with four or five mags with it, there could be some takers!

I will say the toggle action was easier to cycle than my PWS summit action I used to have. It seems the toggle has a spring to open it up. The action was filthy. If I get back over there this week I will take a picture.

An amazing rifle...

They were an incredible bargain once. Their true Biathlon counterparts are very similar, albeit less useful. I say this because I have both.

The Biathlon rifles 7-3 and 7-4 are well North of $2K and have less practical stocks. The do have a bit nicer triggers but nonetheless the Basic has a fabulous two stage trigger.

The Biathlon Basic sporter configuration easily competes with Anschutz 54 class rifles. Again, I have both. The similar Anschutz Fortner (toggle) action is North of $3K and a fat pig in comparison. So yes, they are worth $900...Tom

Here is the best deal going that I know of for a new one, if you contact him directly he may do a little better...Tom
