5mm revival

Hey guys, Iíve been away from the site for a little while. I would check back in occasionally, mainly in the 5mm forum to get a feel for when and if any new 5 mm ammo might be coming out. Imagine my surprise when I checked in a few days ago to find out that there is in fact new ammo available! I read a few posts trying to get a feel for what the ammo was like and if any particular round may be better than the other. The sense Iím getting is that everyone is less than excited about having new ammo. I mean after the last several years of not having any ammo available you would think thereíd be much more excitement about the fact that itís now available. I donít get that sense and I donít understand why.

Neither do I. When the rifle/ammo first came out I was all set to buy one but forces beyond my control interfered. It seems to me that the 5mm was at least the grandpa of the .17 hummer.

I'm more than happy that the ammo is back on the shelves again, I've already purchased 1,000 or so rounds. As far as excitement goes, I'd be more excited if other rifles were offered in this caliber. It would be great if Savage or CZ could offer a 5mm...increased popularity in this caliber would help bring the ammo prices down too

The excitement came mostly with the first batch of ammo. This time I just bought more ammo once and will buy more. New loads with different bullets would create excitement and new rifles becoming available would really rev things up.

I agree. I think a bigger selection of rifles would be awesome! A Savage 5mm would be something Iíd be really interested in. Maybe we should start pestering them!

If they build it.......

Iím sure folks would buy a 5mmRem B-Mag or similar rifle.
A new rifle would certainly fuel the possibility to produce more types of ammo.
Rimfires certainly are appealing to those that donít want to reload all the time.It is a very neat round and deserves another chance in a nice rifle.

Maybe EVERYONE should start calling Savage and asking WHEN the new 5MM they are producing will be available. Tell them you want to get an order in ASAP to be in the first lot of the line.

I have watched this thread with interest. About once a year, like a wave, posts appear with the rumor that "Savage" ( or Ruger, or CZ ) is on the verge of producing a new rifle in 5mm. As an objective observer with no dog in the hunt, I have to say that from my view, y'all had better be prepared to be disappointed. Look at the pure economics of the situation and reallize: ain't happening. Sorry. Really wish it were different. I own a 17HM2, so I sympathize.
