A 12 gauge...
A 12 gauge with a nice full choke would solve that problem!!! Sorry I missed the shindig. Have always had a great time when I have been fortunate enough to attend.
God Bless, Frank.

now Sarge: We had us a system. I cooked a little and 311 supplied that beer.
It was cold, creamy with hints of vanilla, chocolate and maybe a little coffee. You know, those important food groups. One of those things you can barely cut with a knife and couldn't see through with the Hubble space scope! Nice.
We even had a real citizen from Mass. sit in with us. He talked funny. After spending a week down in y'all country, this Mass. feller purt near broke my ears.
He was a good feller though...maybe the only one in Mass. lol.
I always got my partner Knotty to look after me if I soak up a little too much of those thick beers, which Is mighty seldom these days.
We did sample a little presimmon juice...thank you very much..a fine vintage. The feller from Mass. especially was fond of it. He swore off the next day.
311 wanted some practice cleaning squirrels and though I felt
REAL bad about not doing it myself, I like to be accomidatin when possible.

I had just such a 12 gauge in the truck, mostly for any squirrel emergencies the .22 couldn't handle. In the spirit of the Shawnee hunt, I left it in the truck. But if I'd stayed there another day or two with none of y'all to see me and shame me, it would have probably been shotgun time, lol. It's a 70-80 year old Western Field mod. 30 (Stevens 520) and fun to hunt with.

Sarge, it was a pleasure to meet you, even if only briefly. And I enjoyed those persimmon so much that I'd be glad to share my beers with you next time.

Planning??? I'm packed already. ;-) I guess I'll just have to take advantage of my packing for deer season.
I got a couple of squarrels last weekend. Both were shot in the left shoulder with them broadside to me facing left. So I'm going to take the rifle to the range and see if it was me or the rifle that was shooting 2" to the right. In any case they both ended up in the cooler.
One of them was a feisty buck fox squirrel. I was about 100yards away when he started barking at me. I just kept following his bark. I moved slowly for several minutes and he just kept barking away at me. I kept thinking that he was higher up in the trees than he was. When I finally put eyes on him he was only about 15 yards away sitting on a limb about 12' high and giving me the evil eye. He just kept barking away until I silenced him. I wish Sophia had been with me for that, as he was super easy. But she was visiting with Grandma.

That's awesome Taff!!! Brownies and I both gladly sport our outfitter hats that you gifted to us a couple of years ago.
You're going to be thrilled to see how much he's come along in the last couple of years. And by next year it'll be even more-so. He's an awesome shot offhand and his patience in a hunt just keeps increasing in leaps and bounds.
You may have noticed in the thread already, but Brownies also won the Iron-Sight this year. He was in a three way tie and pulled it off with the luck of a coin toss. I really thought that it was going to go to his head. But he's been pretty cool about it. He really knows that it was mostly luck in the end. Now, if he had won because he shot more squarrels, then we may have had some ego to deal with.

Not exactly a squirrel... but...
Ok, I know that this isn't a squirrel post. And he certainly wasn't using a rimfire. But for ya'll who are following a certain young man's progress in hunting, you may like this.
He is prouder than punch to have finally harvested a deer. He got this really nice doe last weekend during the IL Youth Deer weekend with his new Savage 220.
You can tell he was happy because he is actually smiling in a picture.
