Saw this on Amazon,, it has variable speeds, and is reversible with an adjustable table.

For me the issue would be the sanding belt, the size is metric check and see if any one carries the size. Also its 12 volt I would make sure you have a good converter so that the motor does not burn out.

Pretty light duty. 12/24 volts at 60W. For the money you would probably be better off with a 1 x 30 belt grinder..

This one looks better

It is 110, so works on household current,,, replacement belts are readily available in many grits, and the work table is adjustable so the blade can be held into the direction of belt travel or away from belt direction.

If you are going to try your hand at making a knife might be nice. But for general sharpening would be afraid it would take off too much or hurt the temper.

Its way to fast for sharpening and pretty much any work on steel that is heat treated. It would be great if it was a variable speed.

Yup, fast belt speeds will heat the knife edge and ruin the temper at the edge where you really need it. There are better options for knife sharpening from the Lansky system to the EdgeSharp system..
