Wife and I went to Cabelas Sunday for our bi monthly visit to buy what they don't have in stock, just can't figure that place, well while looking over the used and others that they have on racks that you can grab and hold they had a couple of 512's in 22lr. I have never really had one in my hands but they felt good and she really took a shine to it. What do you think aout them in 22 WMR which is what I would get if I did? I have read the many posts on here but most are old and opinions change so speak your mind. I think I would get the American model for the Walnut stock, to Me Beech just doesn't look good unless its quarter sawn. Thanks for your input.

HA! There is no way anyone can cut Beach to come close to walnut. CZ has been lucky with the RFC buyers.

I got a cabelas discount notice in the mail today. $20 back in points on any firearm. Not much but; every bit helps. I assume all cableas card holder will get those. Maybe?

Semi autos in 22mag seem difficult to built. IMHO, the 512 claim to fame is being very successful at that. Sorry, I cannot speak from experience. Also, it may not be obvious, the lower 1/2 of the receiver is plastic. I am not trying be negative, I only mention this as a heads up: Aluminum and Plastic. It is a consideration for me.

I've got the 512 walnut stock in 22 WMR and am very happy with it. The wood is nice, I don't mind the plastic and aluminum.
It shoots 1 inch groups consistently at 50 yards, but the neat part is that at 100 yards it shoots 1.5 inches consistently.
No problems, major or minor, after about 300-400 rounds.

whtsmoke sir I am not much for automatics but if I wanted one in a magnum I would buy...the one that is currently made is the CZ 512 American...because it was so nice to hold and it really impressed me. Here is a picture I took in 2017 at the Las Vegas SHOT Show.

Sir you need to change your handle to Blacksmoke because your hot and money is on fire in your hands..."white smoke" is generally when the fire dept shows up and is putting out the fire. Your making me look bad with all these CZs your buying.

I have read nothing but great stuff about the 512.

So good luck on your quest.

Not really just trying to make her as happy as i can, don't think she has that much time left, she had Kidney cancer and lost one of them and has been on dialysis for the last eight years which is really pushing it. One day at a time around our house.
Whstmoke comes out of the end of four of my single shot firearms, two rifles and two of the nicest 1750's era flintlock fowlers, one was custom made for me and hte other I built. You walk in my house and you look above the doorways, they catch your eyas. don't know if i will do it just wanted to get a few opinions on it.

Continuous nay sayers aside, I've had nothing but excellent service from the two 512 .22 WMR's I've owned, still have the newer one, thousands of rounds no problems, Brno/CZ has a long track record of success with .22WMR semi-autos.

Love my 512 WMR and have similar results as everyone else.

Mine does about 3/4" groups at 50-75 yards with a 3-9 scope.

Mine is an American but does not have a walnut stock, but I'm okay with that as its my "truck" companion.

I have two, a .22LR carbine and a .22 WMR American.

The .22LR will shoot with my 452 American any day, it it a really great little rifle. It's really handy and it shoots under a 1/2" with some good ammo (and even with Aguila SE-HV), it's a doggoned good little gun.

The .22WMR American is a good shooter, but not spectacular, just "good". Then again, a WMR isn't noted for being a target load anyway. So far, the best groups have been with the 30gr. Hornady load, but it's not bad at all with CCI 40s (all flavors).

That's as objective as I can be about it. I like them both a lot.

Buy one. It is one of my most accurate and reliable firearms; Iíve taken quite a few wild hogs with it.

Plus One on the "buy" recommendation - My 512 American in 22 WMR has above average wood, shoots decent groups for hunting, and cycles properly with anything I feed it.

I’ve got both the .22lr and magnum, love em . Accurate as all get up. Only thing I did was change the bolt handles to after market Aluminum

Cabela's fall has been long and sad. Just another ugly box store with no soul and prices that are laughable. Depressing to even go in one.

The 512 in 22WMR is an excellent rifle. Very accurate, once you get used to the less than excellent trigger. I like the beech stocks, they are at worst functional, and when the grain pops -- they can actually be spectacular. But the accuracy of the 512 in 22WMR makes it an "interesting" gun no matter what it looks like.
