Idaho Falls Appleseed 2019

Hey all,

I just had to brag that my daughter Waverly and I got the Rifleman patch today. She ended the day with a 238 using her Annie 1712 I built up for Silhouette matches. She is an amazing young lady now and I am proud to be her papa.

My 11 year old needs some accolades too because she was a trooper to run through the Project Appleseed for 2 days.

I was not expecting such an intense event and was surprised at how difficult it was to earn a Rifleman patch. Hats off to all who have earned it.

I have to thank "Prescott" for his hard work and dedication to teaching the classes here in Idaho and the surrounding states.

Loved it. My wife is Native American. My kids are part Native American.

I am making it a requirement for the rest of my kids to go through Appleseed. You can bet I will be training them as part of our homeshcool PT classes.

I also downloaded the audible for Paul Revere.

In my experience, no. Usually there are slightly more Rifleman patches earned than redcoat targets cleared.

The redcoat silhouettes are the same size as the black areas on the AQT. Most people who shoot a Rifleman's score have at least one round that lands outside the black.

Thinking it through, you would probably assume that clearing the redcoat target would be more common, considering that it's fired with no time limit and from the prone position. However, not many people shoot stage 4 of the AQT completely in the black, either. Plus, the redcoat is shot at the very beginning & end of each day, so the shooter might not be mentally warmed-up at the start of the day (and will be fatigued at the end of the day).

Lots of interesting variables, but I wouldn't read too much into it. The redcoat targets are really more for the students, so they can see their progress and get some "attaboys" from the group when the results are tabulated.

come to think of it, the RedCoat target is really more of a bragging right than anything. The whole experience was very neat especially going in cold turkey. I had investigate the whole event several years back, and finally made the step forward. I had no idea what was in stored for the marksman stage of the event. I am training my younger kids to shoot this way for fun since we really focus on slow and precise shooting as our norm (keeps round count low).
