Golly, I hope that doesn't happen to me, I'd have to buy a new safe.

Rob Fates, Alamo CA
Vintage 196-7X
Mossberg 144LSB, Lyman 57MS rear and 17A front sights
CCI Standard Velocity ammo
Protektor front and rear bags
48-1X, 49-2X, 50-2X, 49-2X

I transplanted my Mossberg action into a Remington 513 target stock because I hate plastic finger-groove trigger guards. The rifle never shot well until today, when I really tightened the action screw and barrel band. I tried several brands of ammo - 5-shot groups, to see which had potential and to my surprise CCI Std Velocity shot better than anything else, including Eley Edge, Wolf Match Extra, SK Rifle Match and Federal 711B. So, I shot the target with CCI.

191-4X Vintage Dan Ide Port Byron Il.
Mossberg 144 LSB CCI STD.
Rock Chuck front / bag rear
48-0x 48-1x 47-0x 48-3x 191-4X = 191-4X

Hard to shoot BR when the next bench over is shooting a Kentucky Long Rifle. Shhot fast between clouds of smoke.

200/9X, Tom Billeter, Tucson AZ
Walther GX1, Walther sights, RWS Target Rifle ammo, Cowan Front Protector rear.
50/2X, 50/2X, 503X, 50/2X = 200/9X

Shot with SK+, 49/4X, 50/3X, 50/5X, 49/4X = 198/16X

Shot with CMP Eley bulk, 50/4X, 49/3X, 50/5X, 50/2X = 199/14X

I'm gonna have to dig out my 144 and see if I can come close to what you guys are doing with yours.

This morning the guy next to me left. The one who showed up was shooting a black plastic 10" barreled thing. He put a target out at 15 yards with one-o-them Show Me targets about 10" dia. First 3 shots didn't show up anywhere. By the time I left shortly there after he had'r on the cardboard backer and was on his way to the target

Tom:
I'm looking forward to your Mossberg 144 attempt. I'm having fun shooting these matches with inexpensive, obsolete, old wood and steel .22's. Next up - a Remington 521-T Junior Special.

HiRob,

Seems like there's one of those around here somewhere too but one step at a time.

Rob Fates, Alamo, CA
Vintage Remington 521-T Junior Special
193-7X
49-3X, 50-2X,47-1X,48-1X
Protektor front and rear bags
Lyman 57RS rear and 17A front sights
SK Rifle Match ammo

Hot - 100 degrees, sweat fogging up my shooting glasses. I tried CCI Std Vel on a sighting target with poor results so I switched to SK for the record target. The first two groups were great, but the wind came up and I was chasing the bull on the last two, making sight changes. Still, the rifle did better than I expected it to.

Next up a Remington 514, the red-headed stepchild of the 5-Teens, but equipped with target sights. May surprise me...

August 2019

190/3X Tom Billeter, TucsonAZ
Mossberg 144, I think these sights are Williams, at least the rear, Eley bulk
Cowan front, Protektor rear
48/X, 46/X, 48/X, 48 = 190/3X

That's all I could do with this thing. About 2 targets into this I realized the action was loose in the stock. No great improvement but 1 less thing to worry about. Not a bad trigger on this rifle.

The score reflects on the driver not the equipment.

Mighty hot and mighty humid after rain yesterday.

198-7X
Lon Hale, Norway, MI
H&R M12
Redfield International rear SureX aperture, Olympic front
Rest, chunk of wood, rear back of hand
Ammo Federal Gold Medal 711B
23-2X
25-1X
25-2X
25-2X

Conditions switchy winds 5-10 mph coming from all angles, head wind come on fast for first target dropping two shots in the nine ring.
Very limited supply of decent ammo in these parts leaves me shooting some old stock Gold Medal with a high standard deviation twenty shot string through a Pact Chronograph.
Rest and bags arriving in tomorrow’s mail, an old Gene Beecher.

Rob Fates, Alamo, CA
Vintage 192-5X
Remington 514. Lyman 57RS rear and 17A front sights
CCI Standard Velocity ammo
Protektor front and rear bags.
49-2X, 46-1X, 48-0X, 49-2X

Hot, shifting light winds. This rifle is an entry level gun, but it was equipped with target sights when I bought it. It looks a lot better than it shoots...It is a single-shot, with a stiff bolt action and a gritty, stiff trigger. It also has a thin, rounded forearm, so holding it steady on the front bag is a challenge. This is the last of my .22 target rifles, and I'm going back to my Remington 511 for future matches to pursue the elusive 200 score.

(That H&R model 12 in a prior post looks terrific. I wonder where I could find one of those...)

That felt good!
Variable winds 5-10mph, with puffy clouds changing the lighting cost me a few in the X count. Temperature 76 degrees. Very happy this rifle likes the cheap stuff!
