Picked this up today, has an 8” barrel. Still trying to figure out which variant it is, assuming it’s a third model. The grips are throwing me off, but have seen several with this same style grip. After alittle more research, the grips are for later model revolver. But they fit perfect and have not been altered in any way. Only major flaw is someone modified and installed a custom front sight. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Tks Terry

That is a cool old gun, and I bet a it is a pretty good shooter as well. There is a gun shop locally that has one for right around $1000 if I remember correctly. I am guessing that it is priced a little high, but I really haven't checked gunbroker for completed auctions. I have never shot one but I would love to have one of those beauties some day.

The grips are from a much newer gun, post 1968.Look like J frames.

I wish that they still made this model today.

I have one of these. It is a nice target gun, great trigger. The grips on mine are gutta percha, the thermoplastic of it's day. It is often referred to as hard rubber. Mine is in very good condition, I paid a premium price, as I often do it seems.

.

I believe you have a 3rd Model (made 1909-1923)

IIRC

The Single Shot Model of 1891 1st Model (SN 1 to 28107) was single-action only, with hard rubber extension grips. (made 1893-1905)

2nd Models (SN 1 to 4671) were also single action only, with hard rubber extension grips, - and had no recoil shield like the 1st Model. ( 2nd was made 1905-1909)

The 3rd Model (Perfected Model, SN 4618 to 11641) was built on the "I" frame, had a trigger guard integral to the frame, can be fired either single or double action, and had Checkered walnut extension grips.

Nice find, especially today. ..
