AR CATCH 22 question

Log in to see fewer ads
I have a lower that I use with a PSA 22lr upper, and with a 300BLK upper. Will the AR CATCH 22 last round hold open CATCH work with both 15-22 rimfire magazines and standard MAGPUL 5.56 magazines? Thanks.

Nope, it will prevent standard magazines from seating. A lower with a Catch22 has to be a dedicated rimfire-only lower.

What he said. I tried to make it where my AR22 lower would with with my 300 upper as well since I have a Franklin in mine. Only way I have found is to use the Better Mag Adapter and the S&W M&P 15/22 mags so you uh get last round bolt hold open.

Or you can just use the M&P mags with Catch 22 shims and mag well shim. But i haven't tried this yet and the mag well shim only fits milspec lowers. It wouldn't fit a billet lower I ended up buying and building for the 300 upper I have.

Also might have to check the compatibility of your 22 upper to the BMA. Mine didn't work while hand cycling on the work bench and I was frustrated. But at the range it ran perfect so I must have just not had it in the right spot. No complaints now.

I have several of my Dedicated 22 Retro AR builds that I may reverse engineer by adding the Catch 22 . I like the idea of having the Bolt Catch operable without using my only CMMG BHOA set up (Used on a favorite CLASS CARBINE with a CMMG SS Conversion unit ) that I go back to Centerfire now & then with .

I briefly considered getting one of those lowers with a screw that secures the bolt catch so I could switch back and forth between a Catch22 and normal bolt catch. However, those lowers are all about twice the price of a regular Palmetto or Anderson stripped lower. If that were the only piece I would have to change to switch back to 5.56, I might have done it.

It was easier just to maintain dedicated lowers.

I've never tried removing a bolt catch before, but if you have a standard milspec bolt catch (any maker but Combat Armory/BCA) I'd send you my Catch22 for one + $15. PM me if interested

I got mine from tandem kross. Forget what it cost but was one of those "add this to the order for free shipping" items. Wasnt till months later I jumped off the dedicated 22 cliffs and been happy ever since I got the kinks worked out. Seems I take that AR to the range more than my 556 or 300.

I'm still sad I had to get rid of my slide fire 10/22. That gun brought a smile to everyone's face when I let them shoot it! I always enjoyed the "what is that?" Questions when I'd mag dump it at the range.
