Picked up a like new stainless basic 10-22 carbine today at a pawn shop. Not a mark on it and had the box. $225 price ended up at $203 otd because that was all the cash I had on me. Thinking about a bone stock competition rifle. Otherwise I might change the stock and maybe a BX trigger but that is it. I wonder if steel challenge has an Olde Pharts League?

The local farm and home store has 10-22's on sale for $149. I already have several. Have got to decide how many more do I need. I know you guys will understand.

The cheapest price I have seen locally is $219.99 + tax. $149 is a stock up and put away price.

Torqued it to 20 inch pounds and took the new one to the range yesterday. Appears like it will be a decent shooter for stock but that trigger is horrible. I kept checking to see if the safety was on. I definitely pulled some shots because of it. So 1st change coming up. Would Brimstone still be considered stock? Otherwise I will go with a BX or possibly another Hornet. The 10-22 I put in an Archangel QBD stock has a Hornet trigger and that probably made it feel a lot worse. I shot it first and it is really looking like a winner for my wife. Stock is too short for me.

Always shoot the one with the heaviest trigger first!
Fwiw, I used the hammer only from the JWH Hammer Kit and mine went to a consistent and predictable 3.5#. Next go round will be the trigger return torsion spring mod.
Imo, very good results for 'on the cheap'.

I stoned the bottom of the hammer and it seems to have helped. Did not get the bolt release mod right so it does not hold open. I dont know if I took off too much or not enough. I ordered a Volquartsen bolt release and I will compare them. I have a spare trigger module so I am going to play with it. Might learn something.

Took a little more off the bolt lock and now it releases perfectly. 2 more guns to go.

I bought my stainless 10-22 at Walmart in 1992. I had a little trigger work done but no parts replaced. I added Tech Sights. That's it.
