Why is the CZ 457 "American" barrel so long?

Does the 22WMR really need ~25" of barrel to burn all the powder and reach maximum velocity? Or, is it a balance thing? Or purely a European aesthetic thing? I'm assuming it isn't due to excessive muzzle 'blast' of a shorter ~18"~20" barrel.

TIA,
Sid

The 452 & 455 had an Ultra Lux with a 28" barrel. I have a 457 Lux waiting at my dealer with the 24" barrel with sights for under $400 OTD.

If you look at the international shooting competitions, many use 22lr rifles with 'BLOOP' tubes for superior accuracy. A 22lr needs what, ~8" of barrel with super match ammo to get a complete burn and no loss of velocity or accuracy so, isn't ~16" enough for a 22 WMR?

For the way, most people and myself, use a 22LR or 22 WMR, a shorter handier package rules!

Practical me says spend a lot less and get a RAR, the traditionalist says get a SAKO Finnfire or CZ 457! Why doesn't CZ release an ~18" "American" 22 WMR?

I like 18 to 20 inch barrels myself, the American is a hunting rifle, shorter barrels just handle better and in my opinion look better.

My Savage heavy barrel has a 21" barrel, which I like....I can't imagine a 4" longer barrel being very handy in the field.

It seems that the euro's just can't comprehend the American market. There is no good reason for a rimfire barrel that long.

Length of barrel does not ensure accuracy with the 22wmr.
16, 18, 20 inches of barrel length and my results were the same.
Ammunition quality is what determines results with the 22wmr.
For center of critter it's adequate. Punching paper you'll see a lot of strays.

I like shorter barrels too. But in the CZ boat for some reason the longer oars just seem to work better. Could be the difference in the mandrel they use to hammer forge the longer barrels is just better than the short mandrel.

It seems that CZ is simply using the same barrel as the Lux and Trainer. Without sights, of course.

Solution: slug the barrel, and if the info that gives you allows: hacksaw and Manson reamer.

I am quite pleased to see the 24.8" barrels. I like the aesthetics, the balance of the scoped rifle, and much appreciate the lower muzzle report. Now I can purchase an 457 CZ American 17HMR with an 24.8" barrel, without piecing it together which I would have had to do with the 452 or 455. JMHO I like it.

I like shorter barrels. My 54MSR Sporter before and after the hacksaw treatment.
