That's a 1st year 39A (1939). The 1st year 39A was a Model 39, from the receiver back, with the addition of a round barrel, new style mag tube, and forearm. The good news is that you can shoot any type of ammo you want in it.
It should have 39-A on the barrel . The letter A is probably there but was not roll marked clearly. Marlin started roll marking 39-A on the barrel the first year the 39A was introduced in 1939

Are you sure that the roll stamp doesn't have 39A on the far right of the upper line?
