They are a little loose and if you pull out and twist they can come out. They have a spring that pushes a rounded end rod into a detent. Similar to some semi auto shotguns. Made that way for takedown, bolt removal, etc. This info is from my Italian rifle and a few I have handled and messed with.
HBoom, Thanks for the response on bolt handle. Here are a few pics. Bad light, but here it is. Gun is 99% condition. I bought it from original owner. Probably
wont be 99% after this squirrel season! If I use it hunting.
Oh my... That's a beautiful rifle. Arky, I'm with you on using it to hunt. I just can't stand the thought of rifles, no matter HOW nice they are, just sitting in the safe unused. One can only get so much enjoyment just from LOOKING, but not shooting/using it. Good luck with the XXII. I hope to pick up a nice example some day as well.
Those Squirrels will see you comin a mile away! Wow that is a pretty rifle! That gloss eer scope is Thee perfect scope for that rifle. Have fun in the woods this fall and when you aren't lookin for Squirrlels you can sit and look a that rifle.Nice!
