Wrong

You've got lots entities in Canada other than Ruger to blame for that.

No magnum but.............

I do have a Charger converted to .17 HM2. Back before everybody panicked over the .17 cal conversions, I got ER Shaw to cut a .17 HM2 .920 barrel down to 12". After a bit of tuning with hammer and...

Yup

Most probably. And, unless the damage was way beyond what normally happened, the magnum bolt could have still been used. The most common damage was breaking off the thin lip below the inner...

Interesting! First time I've heard of a bolt breaking on the outside extractor.

Nice

I had a stainless 917V. Sold it when we got a couple of CZ 452 HMRs. It shot very well. I'm thinking at that price, in this market, if you don't already have a HMR, you should jump on that. Good...

Screw anchors

Used to use #4 x 7/8 screw anchors for .22lr snap caps. I doubt the length makes any difference. Worth a try. If you're using them in a 10/22 magnum, check your owner's manual. You will find that...

Pretty good buy in today's market. Hope you can find some ammo at a reasonable price.

Or..........

Or.............it doesn't take much of a machinist to cut a slot in the barrel to fit the inner extractor.

OK

Go ahead and buy that "half decent price" 10/22 magnum and leave it as is. Then buy a new 10/22 lr and start there. They are available about anywhere for $200 more or less.

Agreed. Cheapest I've seen around Indy is $219 at Rural King. Of course, if I "needed" another one $20-$30 wouldn't be the primary consideration. Availability would be!

Nope

The #1 issue, of course, is going to be finding a 10/22 magnum cheap enough that you will want to destroy it on a whim..........if you can find one for sale at all. They have been out of production...

Clark

Lothar Walther is correct, I think. Many years ago, I was struggling with a 10/22M HMR conversion. I bought a very light weight barrel from a highly regarded manufacturer. Had over 50%...

Clark

gmd1950, is that HM2 barrel stamped "Clark". If so, very good choice! I assume the HM2 conversion is just a barrel swap on a 96/22 lr.

WalMart

When I heard our local WalMarts were going to quit selling guns, I went in and bought the last 10/22 "WalMart Special" model they had. A manager told me they drop any item which doesn't account for...

Amen! I have 2. One is similar to the above but I also have a Clark Custom .17 HMR barrel for it. It runs just fine in either caliber. The other appears box-stock but has some of the standard...

96/17

I think a factory 96/17 would be a pretty rare bird. I stumbled onto a 96/22M several years ago and, of course, couldn't just leave it at that. The trigger was not good so I sent it off to TT...

About as well explained as could be. A great example is the famous "Walmart Special" 10/22 which was only available at Walmart. Thus the name. I'm glad to have one. They're no longer available as...

Short barrels

Bullberry Barrels has changed ownership recently but a visit to their site might be of interest. Several years ago, they did a test on HMR velocity related to barrel length. I don't know if the...

That kind of accuracy isn't unusual for a 10/22M of any vintage once you find the right diet for it. Mine both shot the lighter bullets much better. The .17 HMR conversion has shot 9 round groups...

2K rounds! Now that you've got it broken in, it should be shooting really well.

Extractor

I wouldn't even consider firing the gun without removing the inner (left side)extractor first. The gun should run just fine without it. The one shot it takes to trash the bolt might never happen...
