I wouldn't even know there was a rabbit there. Or a horse. That's a long way away. Most shots, at least in New England, are under 75 yards.

Is it normal for sparks to come out the right side when shooting? Not on every shot. This was right at dusk. Lots of smelly smoke from this also. Maybe coming out those vents...

I would do a .20 WSM rimfire. Then a more powerful .20 Vartarg centerfire. Wish Tikka, Sako, Mossberg, or another newbie would co-opt a cartridge the way Ruger did with .204 and Savage with the .17...
