While checking further the underside of the barrel forward of the receiver is stamped 41 as in 1941 polishing room date.

The inside of the butt plate and the butt of the stock are stamped in large numerals nearly 1/2' tall 268.

I would clean them well with carb cleaner or non chlorinated brake cleaner first and see if they slide fit freely on the bolt and if need be use the method I mentioned earlier in a post above.
