That's what I'd have done--they're a distraction in aiming. As useless as a saddle-ring on a carbine. They were first used on Model 54s (rifles, not carbines) in 1925--nobody thought of using them...

True, but it should allow the gun to be bought at a bargain price. Doesn't affect shooting of gun, as long as you don't make it worse by using safety--which there's no reason to do anyway.
