Good choice dutchmac

Good choice of rifle and ammo in my opinion. A tough constructed bullet at modest velocity in the right place will always get the job done. My PH in South Africa likes the Woodleigh cartridges a...

Google says: Stinger case length.

The Stinger case is longer than that of the long rifle; about .702 in (17.8 mm) versus .613 in (15.6 mm) for the long rifle, but the plated hollow point bullet is lighter and shorter at 32 gr (2.1...

S&W Model 34 & 63 have hammers.

The S&W Model 34 & 63 have hammers and shoot well. Another small revolver that shoots well is the Ruger Bearcat.

S&W 43C, S&W 351C ...

I have both the 43c and the 351c. Both have heavy triggers and needed to be sure the rimfire ammo goes off when hit. Very mixed postings, here and via Google as to the effectiveness of the .22 long...

Realistic accuracy ...

Realistically, you do not get all your pellets through the same hole at 10 yards. For some years now there has been a 33 foot (official distance) offhand match on RFC.

S&W 63 2"

My first purchase this year, subject to my being forgetful, is a S&W Model 63 with a 2" barrel. Like brand new. I had a 2" Model 34 about 60 years ago that I dearly loved. No idea why I sold or...

Shot sizes and pattern density matters.

Before you load up and walk about, do test what you intend to carry. The .22 Long Rifle and .22 Magnum use a #12 shot. The bulk of the centerfire shot cartridges use a larger shot and even with...

Lessons from those that had little choice...

The early South African Boers had "Cape Guns", a side by side gun, rifle on one side and shotgun on the other. They used it for everything. The rifle was capable of killing anything large or small...

Moth Balls in a bait bag under the hood might help.

We had a similar experience but not as expensive. I was told to put moth balls in a bait bag and hang it under the hood. The bait bag is a relatively loose weave used in lobster traps, but my guess...

Ban on certain words. Should context be considered ?

Seems to me the context should be considered. The above example just seems cute. Kind of reminds me of George Carlin's on stage discussion of the words banned from public broadcasts. David

How about no brass ?

I can remember using shells with no brass to hunt ducks on the river with my son. I think they were called Active and were a dark red in color.

Shoot heavy paper & look at the holes...

Easy enough to partially test to see if your bullets are staying pointy end first. Shoot at heavy paper on cardboard and look at how round the holes are, and do compare with standard 40 gr. bullets....

There is plenty of ammo you can get on line. You can buy 10,000 rounds a year of bulk Eley from CMP and it's pretty good ammo. A lot more consistent than the cheep stuff. Check out Champion...

The .30-06 is not marginal for anything.

The .30-06 is not marginal for anything. Plenty of hunters in Africa, going back 150 years, used all kinds of rifles with less "power" but they did have bullets of a proper construction. And they...
