For eliminating varmints the 17 hm2 and hmr are top tier choices. 22 mag and even 22 LR have too much penetration and don't break up as well on impact making the 17s much safer in populated areas.

I would hang on to that one and shoot it often! It is a shooter for sure and I think the maker did a great job hiding the Remington info under the stock. They must have done some expert stock work...
