My sympathies to all of you who lost someone

I was told (10 yrs ago) that my wife would not survive the type of cancer that they found. That was a bad, scary time. I don't know how I would have coped with losing her. Thanks to God that I...

You are right

Your description is more accurate than my simplified "flat base" depiction, but after that little skirt (mini skirt?) obturates to fill the bore and then leaves the muzzle, the bullet shape will...

dead on the mark

In subsonic flow, a sharp corner (like the one found at the base of a 22LR projectile) followed by a drastic turn in surface contour (as in, a square base) is pretty much guaranteed to cause total...

Well, you have confirmed it

I just recently turned that same age, and I had been wondering if the rest of that description fit me too. Don't show this to my wife.

other reasons?

Maybe (and I'm just guessing here, I have NO secret insider info as to why they tried this shape), just maybe, the tiny tail helps to deflect gas more evenly in all radial directions at the muzzle?...

crap

It's no fun getting old....

Thanks, all you guys, you were right. I had some "younger" eyeballs look thru the thing and they said it was working just fine.

next questn--

Where do you store your supplies? Indoors/airconditioned? Garage? Bedroom closet?

If I keep it in the garage (and it does get pretty hot here in a Texas summer), any suggestions for protecting it...

red dot working correctly?

I got a TruGlo red dot on sale today (saved $5); it's a 30mm objective lens and is supposed to have a 5 moa dot reticle. But instead of a round dot it has two little vertical slash-marks, and looks...

Give it a chance

All the above suggestions sound good. But don't automatically give up on less expensive stuff, your rifle might possibly like them also.

This cartridge came out a couple years ago. A few manufacturers offered rifles chambered in this load, but just as this whole thing was getting started the ammo seemed to disappear. IIRC, that was at...

Sympathies

Prédateur, I hope you understand that most Americans have long since given up trying to understand the rules made by our government, as well as the way they are enforced (or not enforced). Have you...

Does anybody need these?

I have some HP ink cartridges that my wife brought home. They appear to be new, in sealed bags or in boxes. I will ship if you want them. I'll leave this offer up for a month (and then they go in the...

Just a thought-

But while we're all on this subject, has anyone tried drilling through the top of the receiver (at + and - 45 degrees from top-dead-center) near the back end of the tenon, then threading those holes...

In that case

I think you might have good results with the right flavor of Loc-tite. Use the right one and it will work fine for what you need, and it will be much more removable when the time comes.

Have you...

I agree

Baby steps. Other than maybe fixing the LOP thing, stick with simple. Simple is good.

He may end up doing really well, and skipping over the 1022+ improvements and go straight to another rifle...

bedding/damping pads

You may want to first try some small pads cut from tire inner tube sheet rubber. Wrap around the bottom half of the barrel and re-assemble. You can move them around front-to-rear to test for best...

One other thing--

Most modern firearms (and I think your G17s and MP-5s certainly qualify here) have a magazine feature that enables you to make a direct visual check of the number of rounds loaded. Mags are...

theory vs. actual practice

According to metallurgical science, a "well-made" spring (proper materials, proper forming process, proper stress-relieving process, proper tempering process, etc) does not fatigue due to prolonged...

And if you do a poor job of loading your trailer you can get into some pretty squirrelly (and violent) swings, especially at higher speeds.

Gas mileage gets bad at speeds above 60, gets even worse...

I looked through about 8 or 10 pages back through the posts on "centerfire--rifle", back to the middle of last year. Didn't see anyone at all prognosticate about this business. Didn't see any other...

I just don't see any point in wasting ammo, especially the good stuff that is so hard to get hold of right now. These sort of conditions mean you have 50% luck. Or more. That's not much of a...
