I agree with the above posts, shoot it first. I installed the vertical grip and beavertail forend on mine and like the feel of it. I'd rather spend the extra money on ammo than a stock.

Look at the Tikka T1X, it's light, very accurate and you wont be concerned about scratching the plastic stock. For less than $500 out the door it leaves a lot of room in your budget for a good scope...

For the OP I see no need to buy a expensive scope, for what he does it doesn't add up. There are some $250-300 scopes that are very clear and will hold zero.

I have a couple Bushnell Engage series...
