Best rifle

I bought a CZ 452 Lux in 1998 and haven't bought a "serious" .22 rifle since. Old-school walnut and steel, super accuracy. Will never let it go.

First .22

My first .22 was an Ithaca 49 single shot, bought used. Fired shells stuck in the chamber until I polished the chamber with emery cloth on a split stick, then they popped right out. Nice little gun...

A couple of years ago I walked into a local gun shop with a Marlin .30-30 AW I was no longer using. I thought it was worth $300. I ended up trading it straight across for a mint stainless MTSL...

Are you sure the rifles are 871s? Never heard of that model. Maybe you mean 781?

Chuckster

I had a very nice Chuckster .22 Mag a few years back. It shot well, almost exactly same sized groups as several Marlin bolt guns I have had. I think the ammo is the limiting factor.

DA trouble

Years ago I got a brand-new Colt Trooper in .22 LR. After about 25 rounds, the cylinder wouldn't turn, crud under extractor. Had to brush it with Hoppe's solvent to shoot another 25 rounds. I...

Been watching a stainless Ruger 10-22 takedown in local store for a few months now at $299. Today I went in, red tag sale on some guns, now $200. Seems like a good price for a brand new gun. May...

Beech

Walnut has pores on the surface of the wood. Beech is closed grain. Your stock is definitely beech. Actually, I think beech is more shock-resistant and less prone to splitting than walnut, so is a...

A few years back I found a Marksman 72 (made by German HW, very much like an R9) in mint condition in a Houston pawnshop. $49. Scorched my jeans getting to my billfold. The girl waiting on me...

Even though the breech seal is flat, it may still be working OK. A test is - drape a piece of Kleenex etc. over the breech and shoot it (with a pellet). See if the paper is blown off. If not, it...
