I once owned a Browning version with a similar wood gap.Someone had messed with it to the point where the barrel was one thread off of where it should have been.

Browning will have no info for an old FN rifle,especially one that they never marketed.
It does appear that the barrel needs better receiver fitment, as you shouldn't have such a gap in the wood.
