Yes, the Eley, Lapua (SK & Wolf), all have that same odour. It is the smell of good ammo! Actually I believe they all use the same powder made by Vihtavuori (part of Lapua).

Those who target shoot seriously at 100 yards use standard target ammo at 1070 or so fps. The one exception would be RWS R-100 which is supersonic at the muzzle, but I don't believe at the target....

Not sure what you consider mid cost, but you might want to try Wolf and SK. They are both made by Lapua and are just packaged in different boxes. SK Magazine may be the cheapest if you can find it.
