No you don't. There are several screws that clamp it to the receiver. I have one on a 22/45 P4 model.

Maybe try some scotch tape on the contact points so you don't scratch the bluing.

back in the Mark II days, it was just about the only model that was drilled and tapped for an optics rail. It came with a different rail and special rings.

Only ones I know of are Ultradot, or a discontinued Millet SP-1.

If you have any non-graphite anti-sieze, or a moly based grease, use a smear on the barrel shank so it doesn't sieze to the reciever. Might help you rotate it to align the extractor cut out.
