Shot sizes and pattern density matters.

Before you load up and walk about, do test what you intend to carry. The .22 Long Rifle and .22 Magnum use a #12 shot. The bulk of the centerfire shot cartridges use a larger shot and even with...

Lessons from those that had little choice...

The early South African Boers had "Cape Guns", a side by side gun, rifle on one side and shotgun on the other. They used it for everything. The rifle was capable of killing anything large or small...

Moth Balls in a bait bag under the hood might help.

We had a similar experience but not as expensive. I was told to put moth balls in a bait bag and hang it under the hood. The bait bag is a relatively loose weave used in lobster traps, but my guess...

Ban on certain words. Should context be considered ?

Seems to me the context should be considered. The above example just seems cute. Kind of reminds me of George Carlin's on stage discussion of the words banned from public broadcasts. David

How about no brass ?

I can remember using shells with no brass to hunt ducks on the river with my son. I think they were called Active and were a dark red in color.

Shoot heavy paper & look at the holes...

Easy enough to partially test to see if your bullets are staying pointy end first. Shoot at heavy paper on cardboard and look at how round the holes are, and do compare with standard 40 gr. bullets....

Plenty of supply on line ...

There is plenty of ammo you can get on line. You can buy 10,000 rounds a year of bulk Eley from CMP and it's pretty good ammo. A lot more consistent than the cheep stuff. Check out Champion...

I am a believer in a large meplat. I picked up some of this ammo but will not be able to try it out until I get back up North this coming spring. Has anyone used it and what results did you get ? ...

How much light your scope gathers and how much light your eyes can make use of are each considerations. As you get to be old, your eye will take in less light. The only good side of this is that...

Seiler & Bellot ammo for the .32 acp

I like the Seiler & Bellot .32 acp FMJ ammo. Has a bit more fps than the American made stuff.

The Leupold has a life time guaranty which goes with the scope, so it is not dependent on it being owned by the original purchaser. That means you can buy a used one and send it in if problems with...

Sophia has owned many guns...

I seem to remember Sophia had a list of guns she had and was considering thinning the collection. Many were of lesser power than the .30-06, so I suspect she would find all of her rifles adequate...

The .30-06 is not marginal for anything.

The .30-06 is not marginal for anything. Plenty of hunters in Africa, going back 150 years, used all kinds of rifles with less "power" but they did have bullets of a proper construction. And they...

.410 Stevens 555 maybe up for sale...

Low recoil 20 ga. loads might be the answer.

I just finished reading the posts here. I think some of the info could be misleading. For example, a shotgun pellet starting out at 1,200 fps has as much ability to "punch through" leaves...

I wonder if that is the case with many guns ?

Picking pellets out of birds...

I suspect one reason you see #6 & #4 .410 being used is that you get less pellets in the bird and those that you do get, are more easily picked out. And the same ammo works well for rabbit &...
