I'm pretty sure you nailed it. Back out the trigger over travel screw a bit and see if that fixes it. You should be able to test this without going to the range by(unloaded weapon of course)...

I replaced one of the birchish stocks on my 581 with one of the mahogany-ish stocks. I am certainly no wood expert but it does look like mahogany but does not seem as dense as it dents and scratches...
