My son wanted one about 20 years ago. I had to do some work to the sear so it would function properly. He shot lots of gophers with that gun. It is a vaery sold gun.

I don't see much problem with using stripper and steel wool on the wood and not sand it. Sanding does hurt the gun value and looks terrible. A new coat of laquer will make it look a lot better.

If there is very much wear on the sear engagement surface on the firing pin. That probably is one issue. The other issue is the sear spring could be broken.
