Takedown guns were around long before Ruger made the 10/22 TD because some people found them useful. They are certainly not just for peppers but for anyone who thinks a smaller package for storage...

Yes, but they lack the loaded chamber indicator and magazine disconnect that the III has. Even before the IV was released people were paying premiums for the Mk II guns for that reason.
