People in NH don't need no stinckin' jig. :D
Seriously, a jig to do that ? I ran a rod thru the bore, marked where it hit the receiver, and drilled a hole. Big deal. |
The drilling jig just makes the job easier and it's free.
I used this jig to drill my receiver. No muss, no fuss and nothing like the monkey and the football. |
Okee Dokee :t

You are indeed exactly correct - certainly not a necessity by any stretch, I have drilled as many without the jig as I have with it. I will say it is easier and virtually fool-proof with the jig, though. :D:D I am a firm believer in making things as easy on myself as possible, when possible. The reason I have three chests full of tools that aren't used nearly as much as they should.:t:t I am very proud though, to have been assistance to over 250 RFC members who have chosen to drill over 411 receivers to date with the jigs that have been provided in this thread!!! Not that they need it, just that it has helped. If I ever may of be any assistance to you, I hope you will let me know. Very best regards, John Quote:

Yes, I got drilled twice yesterday! I would not have but for John Crowley's efforts to serve his fellow RFC Members.
Simply stated, I'm impressed with John's regard for others. Undoubtedly he is a great neighbor.:bthumb: |

I just used the jig over the weekend. I am very new to this forum even though I signed up in 2011. I have a SuperLite Volquartsen and a Ruger 1022 Target.
Great info here and sharing that jig is fantastic. Thanks again Tom B |
I am sort of an on again, off again user. Gun interest run from 10/22, my old Marlin 22 which my father bought for me about 62 years ago, Ruger #1's, and the AR platform, both 5.56 and 6.5 Grendel.
I signed up for the jig yesterday and was told it would be here later this week, that's almost unbelievable. Thanks for a great forum. |
Still looking for someone in the Gainesville, Fl area w/ tools to help me drill. I'll deal with getting the template, etc. and bring adult beverages

When using this jig then most any hand held drill motor having a ¼” or better chuck can git ‘er done.
|
Drilling aluminum my old antique hand cranked drill should do the job, Most important is a sharp bit the correct size
