165247, Beech, Blued, s-122, S-100, D&T for side mount appears to be factory

Not sure if you want a 44 US (a) U.S. Property marked, 'specialy when the SN has been destroyed by someone adding scope mounts.

Appears to be only five digits XXX55, Beech, Blued, no sights when purchased, D&T for side mount and rear peep seem to be factory, receiver D&T for Weaver bases (the wrong ones) not factory.
Corrected serial number.

1x0355, Beech, Blued, no sights when purchased, D&T for side mount and rear peep seem to be factory, receiver D&T for Weaver bases (the wrong ones) not factory. SN drilled thru for mount.

Flash and I both own S/N 123342

I'll recheck my number tonight

ShootsAtSky 07-19-2011 11:10 AM

The five digit SN from my notes on the 44 US (a) bugged me, so I pulled the scope and mount, cleaned up the gooped on locktite and got a good picture.

I have to correct it (Sorry Flash!).

It is a six digit SN, now that it's cleaned up I can see a 1x0355.

But, now I have a question for anyone else with a US Property 44 US (a).

Where is the US Property stamp on the barrel? On mine it's in front of the Mossberg roll stamp, but on all of the 44 US that I've looked at the US Property stamp is below the Mossberg roll stamp. Is mine 'odd', or did they place the US Property stamp in different places?

Anyone?

Bob

My 44US (a) has US Property on the barrel in front of the roll stamp as well.

Post a picture and we'll figure it out. Regards, Rick.

For those who have SN'd (a) US property rifles, it's important you post the entire SN. The reason is that there are several blocks of SN's that were cancelled by the government and never issued. This might explain the non-standard US Property mark. I believe, these were marked (a) and sold after WWII on the civilian market. Regards, Rick.
